5754 6101 Aluminum for Cars

In the process of continuous development of the automotive industry, lightweight technology is crucial, and aluminum alloy is the core force driving this technological progress. With its excellent specific strength, good corrosion resistance and convenient processing performance, aluminum alloy has been quite mature in the automotive field, bringing great changes to the improvement of automobile performance and reduction of energy consumption. Among them, 5754 and 6101 aluminum alloys play a key role in automobile manufacturing.

5754 aluminum alloy

5754 aluminium alloy belongs to the 5000 series alloy, with magnesium as the main alloying element, and has the following significant advantages:

Excellent corrosion resistance: 5754 aluminum alloy performs well in marine and chloride-containing environments, and is particularly suitable for corrosion-prone automotive parts such as wheel covers and door sills.

Good welding performance: Al 5754 H111 can be welded by a variety of processes, such as MIG and laser welding, and the joint performance after welding is stable, making it flexible for splicing and assembly in car body manufacturing.

Excellent comprehensive mechanical properties: Its yield strength is between 145-220MPa, and its elongation is greater than 12%, which can meet the strength requirements of body panels and structural parts.

In terms of body panels, 5754 aluminum alloy can be used to manufacture door inner panels, engine hood inner panels, etc.; in terms of structural parts, it can be used to manufacture battery tray frames, subframes, etc. Take a certain electric SUV as an example. Its battery tray uses 5754-H321 aluminum alloy, which is 25% lighter and meets IP67 waterproof grade and impact resistance requirements. Abroad, many automobile manufacturers widely use 5754 aluminum plates, such as for door panels, engine hoods or trunk lids. Usually, 5754 aluminum plates are annealed into H111 state or H0 state, because only in this state can it be bent, and of course its price is higher than 5052 aluminum alloy plates.

6101 aluminum alloy

6101 aluminum is a typical alloy in the 6000 series. The main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon. It has the following characteristics:

Good extrusion formability: The alloy is suitable for high-speed extrusion process and can produce profiles with complex cross-sections, such as anti-collision beams, threshold beams, etc.

High balance of high strength and toughness: The yield strength in the T6 state is greater than 270MPa, and the elongation is about 12%, which can meet the dynamic load-bearing requirements of automobiles.

Excellent welding performance: 6101 aluminum alloy can achieve high-quality connection through stir friction welding (FSW), which makes it extremely advantageous in the manufacture of body frames.

In the automotive field, the application of 6101 aluminum alloy is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Automobile charging piles and conductive plates: Due to its high strength and excellent conductivity, 6101 aluminum plates are widely used in conductive parts of new energy vehicles. It can ensure stable current transmission, improve the charging efficiency and safety of new energy vehicles, and extend the service life of related components. In regions such as Europe and the United States where new energy vehicles are more mature, 6101 aluminum alloy is widely used in charging piles and in-vehicle conductive systems; with the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry in China, the application of 6101 aluminum alloy in this regard is also growing rapidly.

Body material: Aluminum alloy has the characteristics of low density, light weight, easy processing and recyclability, and occupies an important position in automobile lightweighting. As a body material, 6101 aluminum sheet can significantly reduce the weight of the body and improve the fuel economy and handling performance of the vehicle. Some high-end car brands have adopted 6101 aluminum alloy in the body structure design to optimize the body performance.

Other automotive parts: 6101 aluminum sheet is also used in other high-strength automotive parts, such as electrical conductors, heat dissipation equipment and busbar conductors. Its good weldability and corrosion resistance make it perform well in these applications. 6101 aluminum alloy also plays an important role in high-strength aluminum materials for buses.
